Café Manager - Lavazza Espression Café
The Cafe Manager position is opening soon and we are looking for the best candidates to apply. The successful candidate will be at the helm of the Observatory's Lavazza Espression franchise overlooking Chicago. Your job is critical in ensuring the success of a dynamic food & beverage business in one of the city's most popular attractions. It is part leading a team, part training and development and all about the product and customers. The incumbent of this position will also be hands on with on-site events, from planning and execution to post-event evaluation.
Working at one of Chicago's most famous landmarks, you will:
- Meet the varied needs of a diverse range of visitors
- Ensure stringent product and customer service standards are met and exceeded
- Proactively promote Chicago as a premier visitor destination
- Increase our brand awareness within John Hancock Center and around Chicago
Success in this role requires:
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, mandatory
- Sound verbal and written communication skills, mandatory
- Sound conflict resolution skills, mandatory
- Work well under pressure, mandatory
- Previous food & beverage experience, especially in a fast paced environment, mandatory
- Background in event planning and execution, mandatory
- Experience leading a team, including with an ongoing training program, preferred
- Customer service, retail or previous attractions experience, preferred
- Previous responsibility in managing expenses and increasing revenues, preferred
- Proficiency in another language other than English would be an advantage

This role would suit someone with previous customer service, and, food and beverage experience. Fluency in French, German, Chinese, Korean or Spanish would be helpful too. Must be 21+.

We're looking for Visitor Concierges who can be many things: a director of first impressions, a problem solver, a diplomat, and an ambassador to name but a few.
Working at one of Chicago's most famous landmarks, you will:
- Meet and greet visitors
- Respond to visitor needs throughout all rostered aspects of John Hancock Observatory including – Guided Touring, Ticketing, Retail Sales, Hosting and Cafe Operations
- Adapt tours and hosting activities to meet the varied needs of a diverse range of visitors
- Proactively promote Chicago as a visitor destination
- Increase our brand awareness within John Hancock Center and around Chicago.
Success in this role requires:
- A high level of competency in the English language
- Sound verbal and written communication skills
- Sound conflict resolution skills
- Work well under pressure
- Customer service experience
- Retail or Sales experience
Ideally, you will possess a guiding or similar qualification, as well as previous experience in the tourism industry. Proficiency in another language other than English would be an advantage.
